MMA

One of the reasons I started Mixed Martial Arts training was for self-defense. When I was 16, I was jumped by 10 kids for no reason. I resorted to carrying brass knuckles as my first line of defense, only to get arrested for possession of an illegal weapon when I was 17. So how could I defend myself without carrying a weapon? Mixed Martial Arts, ah brilliant.

One of my Jiu Jitsu instructors last night, gave a quick lecture about how the streets are totally different. As a police officer, he said that he will do whatever to win a street fight whether it be to pull hair or kick someone in the groin. In the streets you can’t assume just because you have MMA training you’ll win, you have to fight for your life. The same goes with a MMA bout, you have expect the unexpected.

If I would of only been training earlier in my teenage years, I would of probably did some damage when I got jumped. Though, like any martial art you should not use it offensively. Don’t be that jerk that trains MMA to pick fights with people. Below I posted an awesome video of Bas Rutten on some street fight techniques.
