Just about every MMA training message board has the great shin conditioning debate. Those who swear rolling a bottle up and down your shins is the best way to get your shins conditioned. The opposition swears that it will kill all your nerves and you’ll have problems later in life. Well, I am no bone doctor or know much about human anatomy/physiology so I can’t say which party is right.
Rolling Bottles? Psh The Thai Boxing Kicked Trees!
Well besides all Thai boxers being half robot, they actually kicked the trunks of soft banana trees. These banana trees were actually “rubbery”, so if isn’t like going in your backyard (assuming you live in the states) and kicking a tree.
Conditioning Your Shins
My approach to getting my shins nice and conditioned is to just do a lot of kicking WITH the correct technique. I like to spend a round at a time kicking with one leg on a Thai bag or pads. It is said that Thai boxers would spend 3 rounds on one leg, just kicking.
Sparring is another great way to condition your shins. If you have shin pads, I would recommend using them. Yesterday I checked a kick from a person who had more conditioned shins and I was wishing I had my shin pads on.
The bottom line is, your shins will condition with repetition like anything else. Cardiovascular conditioning is done with a lot or running/sprinting/whatever and shin conditioning is achieved by kicking..a lot.

Hello
Since I keep getting questions about the MMA Conditioning Association and the MMA Conditioning Coach Certification, I thought I would answer a couple questions here.
Common questions about the MMA Conditioning Coach Certification:
How long will it take to complete the program?
Sixty (60) hours of study is average. If you have extensive experience in martial arts and/or exercise science, you can likely complete certain aspects of the program more quickly.
Does it matter where I live? Can I complete the program regardless of my time zone?
Students are accepted from around the world. Due to the online learning system, you will complete your studies at your own pace and at a time of the day that works best for you. Our parent association, NESTA, has graduates from over 45 countries.
What if I teach traditional martial arts (kung-fu, karate, tae kwon do)?
You are absolutely welcome to enroll and benefit from this program. Our intent is to help traditional martial arts schools increase business and profits by offering MMA conditioning programs.
How does a fitness professional benefit from having an MMA Conditioning Coach Certification and business?
There are several benefits. First, you create a brand new revenue stream. Second, you will have skills that few other fitness trainers have. Third, you can offer “MMA type” conditioning workouts in a group setting and massively increase your income. Fourth, you will be the “IT” trainer because of your cutting edge techniques, business and skills. You become a stand out!
Is this program only for training elite level athletes?
No! Although you will learn a massive amount of information about training high level amateur and pro fighters, much of the program is also dedicated to beginner MMA athletes, as well as those individuals who simply want a great “unique workout.
