MMA

When working out at the gym I used to carry around my rather large 30 gig ipod classic to get me pumped for my workout. Now there isn’t anything wrong with the ipod classic but I finally picked up a 2 gig shuffle for less than 80 bucks with tax.

iPod Classics

The draw back with ipod classics are they do have a hard disk so running with it isn’t a good idea. Why? For the non-techies it means the likelihood of your ipod failing is greater. The reasoning is because the constant shaking (from running, lifting, etc) of the ipod can cause the moving parts on your ipod to eventually breakdown.

iPod Shuffles

I just load my shuffles with the songs that get me pumped, clip it on and I’m ready to go. The iPod shuffles do not have any moving parts because it’s flash memory. Don’t know what flash memory is? Don’t matter, just know it doesn’t have moving parts so you can do whatever you want with it.

In short, shuffles make a great workout iPod because of it’s durability and portabilty. So run out and buy a shuffle if you’re using an iPod classic. Just my opinion, let me know what you think!

iPod Nanos

I don’t know why I didn’t originally mention nanos but they’re also great workout iPods. Nanos are great because they are still significantly smaller than the classic. They have flash memory and the Nike+ is made for it. The Nike+ attaches to the bottom of your ipod and you put a sensor in your shoe and it tracks a bunch of stats when running.

i used to work out with an old ipod but it was so huge it really bugged me so i did the same thing and that tiny nano is really great

Got to love the nanos and shuffles for working out. Especially because of the flash memory, and they’re really durable.

Hi Jimmy. I love running w/ my nano. Sometimes when I need my phone w/ me in case of emergency, I play mp3s on it to a bluetooth stereo headset. But nano is much more comfortable.

You have any fights/competitions coming up?

  4. Jimmy Says:

    Sterling,

Great to hear from you! Nanos are excellent for the gym, the new one are cool but I’m assuming you have to turn off the shake shuffle feature when running. I could imagine your songs would be shuffling like crazy.

Nothing in the immediate horizon for fights or competitions. I’m looking for fight in the summer. I’m busy with school and work.

    Jimmy,

I have an old nano, no shuffle. But good point on the shake/shuffle feature while exercising.

I’m starting a new business called Endurance MMA. Let me know when you’re ready for fight training and I’ll sponsor you some good endurance supplements (used by top triathletes & Tour de France champions).

My little brother just fought his first fight a few weeks ago:

Yeah I use my shuffle for training. I load it with my fight/kb/run mix for the length I want to train, and I also utilise the length of an individual tune. Ie I will swing my 16 for the length of
Bubba sparxxx -Ugly 4.25 Or hold the plank till Elvis gets to the 3rd verse, u get the pic.

    Help please:
Am interested in earphone thoughts. I use buds but always forget to put cord under my top and am constantly ripping them out as they get caught etc.

    Also your fight mix!

I like to use the timer on my iphone- if my music is too loud I forget my gymboss is on!

    @Comrade Sarah

Shuffles are great, just don’t leave them in your workout pants or clipped somewhere on your workout attire and wash it. I’ve done it before. Now I’m musicless.

Hmm as for earphones, there are more and more bluetooth headphones coming out by third party companies for the ipods. I would keep my eye out for them. Until then, don’t forget to tuck the headphones!

    Thanks for commenting.

    That made me LOL.
Yes have done that and lost a shuffle that way.

    Actually.
Now reverted to using those basic apple ear phones. Being that they aint that great can hear/feel gymboss. And yeah run the cord under my t- shirt to avoid ripping my ears off (again).

Would like wifi phones but only seen those hop hop sized ones.
